Moffitt Cancer Center is seeking a motivated professional to join the Research Support Services team as an EHS Specialist, (hours as needed) in Tampa, FL.
The EHS Specialist will be responsible for performing day-to-day hazardous materials operations for Moffitt Cancer Center's Institutional Hazardous Waste (IHW) and assisting with Research Safety Programs:
Assists in the performance of day-to-day hazardous material operations.
Serves as primary back-up for the Hazardous Materials Manager in their absence.
Assists with implementation of health and safety programs within Research.
Investigates and performs follow-up for incidents, near misses, and other identified areas within Research.
Assists with the development and delivery of related training.
Assists with the coordination and implementation of the emergency preparedness program.
The Ideal Candidate
The EHS Specialist should have:
Experience in managing hazardous waste as a generator, shipper, and/or treatment and disposal perspective.
Experience in safety and environmental compliance working with faculty and staff in a research/educational institution.
Demonstrated ability to perform audits and inspections combined with active participation in corrective action process.
Maintains certification in one of the recognized safety-related programs (i.e. CHMM, CSP, CIH, etc.).
Current Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER).
Proficient in use of Microsoft Office and safety related programs and applications.
Has current training in RCRA Hazardous Waste Management and DOT Hazardous Materials Shipping
Assist in hazardous waste handling, collection, and storage,
Conducts safety audits and routine inspections of safety-related systems
Assist with chemical inventory and storage program.
Contacts and reaches out to assigned areas to provide support.
Demonstrates ability to apply related concepts in program implementation with minimal guidance
Credentials and Qualifications:
The degree requirement may be waived if the candidate has 4-8 years of hands on relevant experience.
Knowledge of Safety and Environmental compliance in a research/educational institution.
Hands-on experience (2-3 years) in a University setting is required.
